A woman from the tribe of the Mountain Village lost her avowed mate to the bitterness of a harsh winter. When that summer came, at the summer fish camp, she would sometimes wander the beach alone, hoping to find solace in the waves. By chance, she caught the eye of the Sea King himself. He courted her for the entire summer and the following summer, and the summer after that. Each time he brought lavish gifts; furs, meat, even pearls and precious stones. But the woman would have nothing to do with him, and turned him away, saying “These are nothing to me.” But the Sea King was not discouraged; his patience was as wide and persistent as the ocean itself, and he would smile serenely and leave his gifts at her feet... Pencil. (Some months old, actually... but it still appeals to me)

The poses and pencil work are great, as always. I think what surprises me most about this pic is that the Sea King doesn't look more, well, kingly...Does that make any sense? I'm sure (after watching too many Disney movies, and Clash of the Titans one too many times) that the mental image that most of us have of a King of the Seas is this towering, over-muscled, bearded thing rising up out of the foam. The Sea King you've drawn is fairly unpretentious 2 I think that works pretty well, and it's certainly a new twist on some old stories. Well done 2

The details (textures and shadows) are really well done in this. 2 problems. 1) Her hand needs some work. They look a little sickly. I always draw my hands in the postition I want if I'm having trouble 2) She looks excited or surprised at what he's offering, but she looks like she's looking over him, instead of looking at him or the gift. I look foward to the colored version.

Love the story and the picture. She truly looks taken aback. I like the sea king's pose, how he, in all his royalty and power, is humbly bowing and offering her his gift. Body language speaks volumes, and you're using it to full advantage.

I love this picture and other work you have done. I have to agree with Brian though. Despite reading the excellent folklore styled story I still see a native offering a pelt to a woman. He also appears to looking somewhere not particularly PC and she is looking over his right shoulder. But I do really like it, where they are looking just intrigues me. :^)

The story is interesting! Most sea kings in stories just grab the woman and take her home with them, making her forget that she didn't want him. But he waits. I like that, less predictabilities to the world! I like how he doesn't look like the typical sea king, too, that's an extra plus, not something bad!

that's really good... why does he look kind of devious? Does he already know who's going to win? 2

You know, he is a magical sea king dude! If he shows himself in all his splendor she might think he was overly-egotistical and judge him before he even gets out of the water! One thing. Where is mister sea man getting the furs? Sea lions? It looks like a leopard pelt from here.

Disney doesn't own the copywrite to the way a sea king should look! And besides, if he was all imposing and stuff he'd scare her off. And even then if she came with him, it might only be because she feels obligated to go with him, because he is a *king*, after all. He wants her to fall in love with him, not just be some random concubine.

That's really cool, I love when the picture has a story behind it.
